May was a wash

Since we are an all volunteer organization and no volunteers were available to get a meeting going, so we didn't have a meeting... I am the main volunteer who just started a new job and has been working all my extra time on my house. - And oh, I almost forgot, I had to be a dad too. There was also the fact that we had mother's day and memorial day this month. Not to mention, everyone else has a full-time job and kids and a house too.

Which is a nice segue into something else I wanted to mention. If you want to volunteer and help out with meetings in some fashion, like; getting actors, helping out the writers, getting the meetings planned, or running a meeting - let us know. we could use the help. The good news is we have 4 writers who want read now, and it's a new month.

We are secretly huddling to figure out who is going to get read and when. Expect an announcement soon. Until further announcements... keep writing.

Two Doors Down Release

While I was living underneath a rock, my friends Louie Cowan (actor, filmmaker, former casting director for The Drama Foundry) and Scott Summit (actor, writer, improviser extraordinaire, early supporter of The Drama Foundry) have released the first episodes of the new web series they worked together on, Two Doors Down.

The launch premiere for the web series took place at Studio 35 Movie Theater and Draught House in Columbus. (Which I was a doofus for missing and I hope this post makes up for it...)

The First Episode came out August 27th.

New episodes are released every 2 weeks on Sunday mornings at 10am. Watch Episode 3 on September 18th which can be seen on the series' YouTube and BlipTV channels, and can be followed on Facebook and Twitter. You can learn more about the very talented cast members Amy Talbott, Yury Kidekel, Amber Mikesell, Mary Jo Apisa, Jane Mowder, Scott Risner and several others (which have been participating actors and writers at monthly TDF meetings) here. We wish them the highest good to come from all their hard work and much success for Two Doors Down.

Falsettos Returns Sept. 15 @ Available Light Theater

John Dranschak who helped start the Drama Foundry, has served as the organization's casting director, and who is an award-winning local director (Merrily We Roll Along) has a new production coming to fruition this week. He is directing, along with help of Available Light Theatre, William Finn's musical Falsettos.

Um... I'm on vacation.

In about a half an hour I will be going down the middle Yough River in Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania. I will be thinking of you all today as you go through several new and developing scripts. I want to see lots of pictures!

As many of you know I have stepped away from leading the meetings of the group. I have had to focus on remodeling my family's house, looking for a job, (a-hem, possibly moving...), and I guess I am supposed to be getting some of my own writing finished too.

I still plan on participating in meetings and hopefully leading a few. My goal all along with the DF was to create a community independent and self-sufficient for itself. I think my frustration with my perceived lack of initiative with some people got the best of me (or maybe inspired me to do with what needed to be done.) That is, I had to say, " I'm stepping back from this group and if y'all want it to continue then you'll have to make it happen." (Did you notice my use of the word, "y'all"? That's what happens when you spend too much time in Kentucky and West Virginia.)

Rick Hole and Therese Nolan have been so kind to help continue these meetings and I am really excited to know Rick, Dr. Alan Woods ( he finally got to a meeting - yay!), Laura and Jay (and actually regretful that I won't be there to witness this great line up). I hope it goes well today and I will be thinking of you all while I am floating down the Yough with my son.

P.S. Save a donut for me.

the writer's Joseph Matulich and Sheldon Gleisser for sharing their work with us. This was a unique meeting where we had a puppet show and an animated script. Both were a first. We also had a large contingent of fine actors this meeting that deserve nothing less than our boundless gratitude. They are (in no particular order) Grant Jones, Amy Talbott, Louie Cowan, Anna Lee, Leslie Robinson, Dan Welsh, Emily Bach, Scott Summit, Jon Calig, Dan O'Reilly, and Yury Khidekel. I would like to particularly thank for this meeting Louie Cowan for his tireless efforts in casting these scripts and Dan O'Reilly for reading an awful lot of stage directions effortless.
